Our Lagoon Trip

Friday was Jon's company party at Lagoon. We covered the $8 parking, and they covered dinner and our tickets. Great deal, I think.

Taelyn loved it! I must admit, seeing her reactions made it the best Lagoon trip ever. We rode the train: Then we rode the carousel twice.
(here she is thinking 'this is kind of lame') (and here she is thinking 'wait, this moves?!') I love the videos (sideways because it was more convenient...sorry).
This next one was while we were waiting for the second ride. This time she knew it was supposed to do something fun.

She loved the Ferris Wheel. Honestly, having her that high and insisting on being as close to the edge as possible kind of freaked me out. I kept asking Jon if he was sure he had her (she's a climber). We finished up with Flying Aces. The video is not great, but you can see us. I wish you could hear her. She laughed and squealed the whole time.

Our bounce back tickets are good through July 5th. We're planning on taking Tae back for another round of the four rides she can go on.

Sharing

Tae loves to share her food. Sometimes she lets you actually take a bite, but sometimes she waits for you to get close, snatches it away and giggles (she got a double dose of teasing from her Da and Papa G). You never know which you are going to get. If she isn't teasing, she insists that you really take a bite, and she can tell if you are faking. The worst is when she tries to share her cracker during Sacrament Meeting. If you try faking, she forcefully shoves most of the cracker in your mouth. Guess I should be glad she shares...

Messy Eater

This episode with cottage cheese didn't start off too bad. But got progressively worse... These are from when she was sick and the doctor said to give her popsicles to help soothe her throat. We learned, after the first picture, to strip her down before giving her another.

UBET no more

So my mom works for UBTA-UBET. They have been UBET for as long as I can remember. I found it very interesting that they changed their name (official last night). Here is their new logo (and apparently they have a video to go with it).

Didn't see that coming...

HFMD?

So the daycare called me on Monday to let me know that Taelyn had a fever of 102.7. I called our pediatrician's nurse, who said to taker her to a KidsCare or bring her in to see the doctor on Tuesday. We decided we wanted to have her looked at asap, so took her to the KidsCare.

Turns out she has a virus, the one that causes hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). I was confused because the doctor never said she has HFMD, just a virus. Anyway, the doctor said no daycare for 72 hours. Jon and I have been working out a schedule so that we can both be at work when needed, and still keep Tae covered. It has worked out well.

She is relatively happy, but has been sleeping a lot. The doctor said she probably wouldn't get anything on her hands or feet, but mostly mouth sores. For this reason, they are concerned about her staying hydrated. She has been eating fine, and drinking lots of milk and water. The doctor said to give her popsicles, which she loves (but are SO messy). The worst is the fevers, and we feel like her temperature is a yo-yo. We have been giving her children's Motrin (the children's Tylenol didn't do anything), but we still have been getting up to 101-102. When her temperature drops, we are just below 100.

Dam Inspection

Yesterday Jon got his attendants out, then came home to watch Tae so that I could go do a dam inspection. We inspected Little Dell and Mountain Dell dams.

We zigzagged up the face of Little Dell (an earthen dam...a very steep earthen dam), checking the toe and surface on the way up. It was quite a workout. We checked the spillway, verified the water surface elevation, checked the instrument rooms, inspected the top, and zigzagged back down. We also inspected the pump station, including hiking into the dam and inspecting the pipe that runs into the reservoir. It was great, other than it had rained when we started. My shoes were soaked and I could feel water sloshing between my toes every time I took a step.

Mountain Dell was my favorite. I have driven past that structure countless times, but had never really paid attention to it. It is a beautiful structure. It was built in 1917. The original structure wasn't tall enough, so they added to it in 1924. It was interesting to see the difference between the concrete and form work on the original structure and the addition. It is holding up remarkably well. We went into all the bays, hiked up one side, walked across the top, and hiked down the other side.

Needless to say, my legs are feeling all that hiking today!

What!? I Have a Blog?

I've found that with Jon not in classes this summer, I have no reason to stay late to update my blog. Additionally, I've been walking during my breaks, and all around too busy. And today? Jon is off and away putting in a new bathroom floor for a family in our ward so that they can hopefully sell their home. I'm totally not motivated to go home to an empty house...

So much has happened in the last 3 weeks. This list is totally out of order, but is a good indicator of what has been going on.

We finally had a birthday get together for Tae. I left my camera here, so we used my mom's. I have yet to see the photos.

Tae is finally getting more teeth! We have had just the two bottom ones since February. Now we have 4 coming in at once (two top middle and next ones out on the bottom). She has been really clingy-but overall is handling it well.

Tae got bit for the first time. I know that it will happen again, I hear that is just part of day care, but it was so sad to see the bite marks on her arm.

I completed a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training. I'm now CERT certified, and have the green hardhat, flashy vest and all. I've been trying to get information on CERT in my area. My community council chair had no information and it sounds like I may need to contact the city. I checked their website, and it looks like they are more focused on training, at this point, than actually structuring the current CERT personnel. I'm excited to be certified, but a little worried at the lack of structure that I'm finding in my area. I must admit I'm a little hesitant to dig into it, because that is how you get put heading things up...

We tried to go to the zoo last night. Turns out we got there 15 minutes too late to get in (total repeat of the Aviary on Tae's b-day). I need to work on this planning thing.

Instead of going to the zoo, we went to dinner down at the Gateway. Afterward we went to the Olympic fountain. Tae wasn't sure what to think. After Jon picked her up and ran through it, she felt a little better. The best is when he put her down when the fountain turned off. She was loving 'running' (slightly faster than her walk) through the puddles...until it turned back on. She totally got nailed! Startled her a little (ok, a lot), but watching the other kids helped her get her confidence back. I'm glad she didn't get nearly as wet as some of the other kids. As it was, she had goose bumps when she finished. She sure did sleep well last night, though!

Oh, and we went home 3 weekends in May. Jon spent one of them on my mom's flower gardens, one on putting in a raised flower garden for his mom, and the last we had Tae's b-day BBQ (and finished Sherrie's flower garden). Last week was the first weekend in a month that we have been home the whole weekend. We got so much accomplished, but there is still so much to do. I typed and printed a columned, categorized list of work that needs to be done on the house we are renting. When I showed it to Jon, he asked why it wasn't alphabetized. Sometimes I love his sense of humor, and sometimes I'm not so sure.

We have also found out that Taelyn loves grapes and calamari...and I have a mission reunion tomorrow.

That is all I can think of, but I'm sure I missed something important. For now, I'll try to remember that I have a blog and see if I can stay semi-current on it.
